Pet Adoption
So often, we pass by a pet shop and we see all these adorable and cuddly little creatures in the window display. And on impulse, we go in to ask: “How much is that doggy in the window?” Many of us do eventually end up purchasing one of these creatures and bringing them home.
But what most of us don’t give a second thought to is “ADOPTION“.
There are so many animals that were once pets of some owner who’s been either abandoned, abused or simply, neglected. And a small percentage of these “lucky” ones get to be rescued and placed in a shelter or foster care till they’re able to find another permanent and loving home.
No doubt, these animals will have some reservations of their new owners in the beginning due to their past. But with your patience and tender loving care, they will in no time return your affection unconditionally a million times over!!
So the next time you or someone you know is planning to get a pet, please consider adopting.
Here’s a quote:
“For homeless animals, shelters are a refuge, and shelters in turn depend on community support to help save those animals. But too often, a critical element of support comes too late: adoptions. With millions of animals still being euthanized every year simply for want of a home, it’s vital that more people start adopting. Each of us has a responsibility to adopt our next companion animal from a shelter. Hoping that someone else will empty that cage just isn’t good enough.”

My children already grown-up, most of the time my wife and I feel lonely at home. We wish to adopt a Retriver or similar(prefer small one)to accompany us.

Hi Willy,
Good to hear that you and your wife are ready to adopt. However, a retriever is not a small dog. Perhaps, you could visit one of the shelters mentioned above over the weekend to see what breed would be best suited for your home and your family.
Good luck & do keep us inform of the new addition to your family.
Regards,
Rosalind
I am a teenager from australia recently same back to serve my ns, currently i get to book out of camp everyday. Hence looking for a dog. I am aware that there are only certain breeds of dogs that I can have as I am putting up in a HDB flat. I do have experience with dogs as I had two other dogs before, a rott weilier and a labrador. It would be good if i can get some advise.
Thank you,
Regards
Hi Kenson,
Thank you for visiting our site. With your previous experience with big dogs, I believe you understand fully the responsibility that comes with being a pet owner. You mentioned that you came back to serve your NS which I believe is about 2 years. So, are you planning to go back to Australia once your NS is done? If so, what will happen to the dog that you plan to adopt?
As for living in a HDB apartment, the rule is that you are allowed to keep one small breed. To find out which breeds are termed small, you can check with the SPCA. And if you do decide to go ahead and adopt, you can also pay them a visit to see if there are any small breeds available for adoption.

Good luck and please remember that a pet is for life!
